Who is the real Obama? I really want to know…

Ok, it has been stated that now the Supreme Court has decided on the gun issue, people can feel safe voting for Obama. But Obama stated that he would put liberals in the seats if an appointment was needed. Basically, if given the chance to overturn the issue now settled, he would. So basically, Scalia saved Obama’s ass. Now what? Do we now trust that he won’t play with the Supreme Court to fulfill his legacy? We can see the Jesus complex coming down the stream, all he needs to do is decide to give his next speech on a mountain somewhere surrounded by his followers.

As well, what happened to all the Liberal support of McCain? For years McCain was the darling of the left, the Maverick of the party, but now that McCain’s hard work has paid off and he has actually changed the party and the way the core of the party acts Liberals face the horrible problem that he is their sworn enemy, “The GOP Presidential Candidate.” Now he is off limits to being loved and adored. What I do understand is the fast reaction the special interest groups have made in turning on him. McCain carried water for these groups for years, being the harbinger of change in a once stoic caucus. But now since he has succeeded, he is no longer the candidate of change.

Tell me why the left paints him as a person that is turning to the conservative right for hope. All he has done is piss off the conservatives and the Christian majority in the hopes of making people realize what open minded debate can bring to the process. In his home state, in fact in his home LEGISLATIVE DISTRICT, he has been encountering heavy feedback on his stances. He is the real man for change in this election. Check out what conservative Republicans think of him. (http://www.trugop.org/jsm.htm )

I want to hear your opinions. I am tired of this Presidential Cycle already.

Check out Novak’s spin on this…

Down but not out

I am currently trying to realize what the feeling I should be experiencing is, now that I have taken a spill on my motorcycle. I have had numerous conversations with people, many of them initially concerned with my wellbeing, others giving me the, “I told you so speech,” yet others asking if I am done with the motorcycle thing all together and yet another who blames my plight on the entire male gender.<her story explained in a later post>
Bike Week 2008 I cannot begin to imagine a world where I don’t ride a motorcycle. From the point where I gripped the throttle for the first time, to the moment where I was flying through the air after I ejected from the seat - I love this life. The first first words that came from my mouth the moment I could speak were, “How is my bike? Is it OK?” Only another bike rider can tell you that connection, and how precious the bond can be between rider and machine.
Every bump, every sound that a bike makes whether good or bad is registered in the owner/rider’s brain. He/she looks over with great care every crease and bend of the structure of their bike and can tell you little stories about every place they have been together. A rider strokes the tires and examines every layer of rubber and how it has been effected. From the way the light shines off the fairings and metal, to the sound made by the engine just before it catches and roars, the relationship is always building and building. To the outsider, the only good example is to try to explain that the bond is not unlike a person and their dog. The care and love that goes into the relationship and the love you get back every time you take a turn together is wonderful.Curves
Exactly a year ago this week, I was pondering the injustices of not getting a bike. Now I sit here a year later, pondering the injustices of the HMO system of insurance. After a slow speed spill I have had some time to dwell on my pain and wonder why the insurance system in America works so. With a seriously injured shoulder I am made to jump through hoops, cross through fire and jump from high ledges to prove that I really need help. So before you jump onto a cycle in the same passionate thrust and whirl your self to the corners make sure you have damn good health insurance. Plus if you want, you can do as I did and take out short-term disability, long-term disability, and life insurance. In a week I will be all taken care of, so the expense was worth it.
The most I can really offer is this. I see riding a motorcycle as a chance to grow as a person I always knew I was, but was never given the chance to be. Riding is an expression that can only come from this experience. It is both sport and art form. Myth and reality. It takes the human rider and transforms them into something so apart of nature, so wrapped into the moment that sometimes the rider is transported right into the wind and only lands when the dream is over. Man and machine relying on each other to stay afloat and working in synergy to deliver each other to the other side.

These are the words of a person who will never give up on the curves….

As most of you know this website has been under construction for some time now. Well the new digs are getting extended and the first of that addition is the adding of a Kenshin subdomain. kenshin.mattmorales.net will house the pictures, stories and anecdotes about life that I have gathered along my path as an iaidoka. I hope you enjoy it and continue to comment along the way.

To Moto or not to Moto, that is the question…

Well the question of the day is should I or shouldn’t I buy a motorcycle?

Last month I made the horrible mistake of taking an invitation from a friend to do the unthinkable.  As we celebrated the birthday of a mutual friend at a local restaurant the topic of ‘why I was the only person around the table that did not own a cycle’ came to the forefront.

I have always wanted a motorcycle, from the time I jumped on the back of a bigwheel all I have thought about is rolling two wheels.  A couple of obstacles got in the way and I came up against the reality of losing a friend in a freak motorcycle accident and another losing his leg to a driver that wasn’t paying attention. Even with all this signs the thought lingers.

So back to the invitation, across the table in a moment of still glory came the keys to a custom Harley Davidson. Followed by the words, “Don’t worry, its insured.”  This began what could only be called bliss.  It all began when I put my thumb against the ignition.  The sound of the pistons revving, the slight click of the clutch, the pulse of the tranny picking up, I was doomed.  The feeling of riding a motorcycle is akin to low level flight.

Well, over the last month or so my wife and I have had this ongoing “discussion” on whether or not I should buy a motorcycle.  I know that there are obvious safety concerns and I have countered this with the willingness to take biking classes and getting certified.  But the question still looms. My wife has experience with working on a spinal cord injury unit and has seem so of the worst that can happen short of death.

Taking her opinion into consideration is a major part of my decision making process, but the idea of living my life scared of what may or may not happen has always irked me somehow.  I can’t live thinking I avoided something because there was a possibility of injury or death.  I never raced that way and I have never skied that way either.  But then again I wasn’t married then.  I always approached things with the attitude that if I died doing them, well then that is what G-d had intended.

I would love anyone’s input into this issue.
